Celebrate the brilliance of bogs with us in July!
This year's Bog Day will be held on Sunday 28th July. This annual event is held in celebration of bogs, fens, swamps & marshes to raise awareness of peatlands - the threats they face, the benefits they provide and the ways in which we can protect them.
Peatlands are the earths largest carbon stores and they contribute to climate regulation, are home to many different creatures and animals and support eco-systems. They are also important for minimising flood risk, and ensuring safe drinking water.
Looking after peatlands that are left and restoring others creates indispensable nature-based solutions for adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change, and supports the biodiversity that lives on our planet. Peatlands cover around 10% of the UK's surface, and an average of 3% of the worlds surface.
